Model No:ST201
To get acquainted with the idea of dynamic equilibrium. to determine the thermal conductivity of copper
Apparatus Used
THEORY
heat flows from hot to cold. If you stick a poker into a fire, the end that you're holding gradually gets warmer – the heat from the fire only slowly travels up the poker. How fast or slow heat travels through an object depends on many things- wood conducts heat poorly, but metals transport heat much better. Heat conduction is not only determined by the material, but also by its shape, and by the temperature difference between the two ends
Apparatus To Be Used
1. Thermal Conductivity App A) Apparatus 12” x1' B) Copper Rod 12” x3/4” in box
It has a copper bar of 25 mm x 300 mm (dia x length) with a steam jacket heater at one end to be supplied from a steam boiler, and a copper water cool spiral pipe of 6 mm dia( closed tightened on the rod to cool it when cold water flows throught it) at the other end.The spiral pipe is connected with two small 2”x 3/4” brass cups with two separate nozzels for water inlet and water outlet and having two rubber corks with hole for thermometer. The copper solid bar has holes fitted with two 4 mm pipes for thermometers fitted in the middle of the 12” long rod at a Cap of 4” with provision to fit two thermometers to take reading of hot & being cooled rod ( i.e hot by steam & cool by flowing water). Fitted in a superior quality wooden case, with felt for thermal insulation.
2. CONSTANT LEVEL TANK
it is used for Universal flow of water through calorimeter etc. consists of brass chromed vessel of 100x75mmdia with tubes for water inlet, outlet and overflow. Fitted with clamp & mounted on a tripod stand.
3. THERMOMETER,?
110' C mercury to measure the temperature of .
